Reducing powder leakage requires coordinated control of the valve, seams, pasted ends, paper permeability, and filling machine. The correct solution begins by identifying exactly where powder escapes, since leakage at the spout requires a different adjustment from leakage through perforations or damaged corners.

Find the Leakage Point Before Changing the Bag

Powder on a filled bag does not always show where the problem started. Dust may escape near the filling nozzle and later settle across the package surface, making the paper appear permeable even when the actual issue is an incorrectly matched valve.

A practical inspection should separate leakage into several locations:

  1. Around the valve during filling

  2. Through the valve after discharge

  3. Along side seams or pasted ends

  4. Through ventilation holes

  5. From punctures caused by conveyors or pallets

Recording when and where dust first appears prevents unnecessary changes to the entire bag construction.

Correct the Valve and Filling Spout Relationship

The valve sleeve should fit the filling nozzle closely enough to control dust without making bag placement difficult. A loose valve can allow powder to escape around the spout, while an undersized sleeve may tear or fail to reach the correct filling position.

For very fine materials, a longer internal sleeve or sealable valve may improve closure. Heat-sealed and ultrasonic-sealed options can provide stronger containment than a basic self-closing design when the packed product remains fluid after filling.

Machine pressure should also be reviewed. Excessively aggressive feeding can force powder through the smallest openings before displaced air has time to leave the bag.

Balance Ventilation and Particle Retention

Effective powder packaging bags must release air, but every ventilation path creates a possible route for fine particles. The perforation size and pattern should therefore be selected according to powder fineness, bulk density, and filling speed.

Reducing all ventilation is rarely the answer. Poor air evacuation causes inflated bags, slower filling, unstable weight readings, and weak pallets. Better results may come from controlled micro-perforations, staggered holes between plies, or designed air channels that do not create a direct path through the package.

This balance is central to any attempt to reduce powder leakage without lowering production output.

Strengthen Areas Exposed to Handling Damage

Not all leakage begins on the filling line. Sharp pallet boards, rough conveyors, exposed metal guides, and forklift contact can puncture the package after it has been filled.

Paper strength, number of plies, and end-paste quality should match the filled weight and distribution route. Heavier or abrasive materials may require reinforced corners or a stronger inner ply. A PE liner can improve product containment and moisture resistance, but it still needs suitable sealing and venting.

Plant inspections should include the conveyor path and pallet condition. Replacing damaged pallets may reduce leakage more effectively than increasing paper thickness.

Use A Trial to Verify the Improvement

Changed bags should be tested under the same machine settings and material conditions as the original packaging. Compare filling time, visible dust, package weight, valve closure, and the amount of powder collected around the line.

Filled samples should also undergo drop, compression, and pallet transport tests. Leakage found only after a drop indicates a structural weakness, while dust appearing during filling points toward airflow, valve fit, or machine pressure.
