Lined paper bags are used when ordinary paper packaging cannot fully protect the packed product from moisture, oil, dust leakage, odor transfer, or contamination risk. The liner adds a functional barrier inside the kraft paper structure while the paper layers provide strength, printability, and stacking shape. This makes lined packaging suitable for many industrial powders, building materials, food ingredients, chemical products, and minerals.
ISO 6590-1 includes paper sacks made from paper or combinations where paper remains the main part, which supports the industrial use of paper sacks with additional barrier materials.
Cement, dry mortar, tile adhesive, putty powder, gypsum powder, and joint compound often need protection from moisture. Once these products absorb water, they may harden, clump, or lose flowability. Lined paper bags help reduce moisture ingress during storage and transport.
The liner is especially valuable for sea freight, coastal warehousing, rainy-season delivery, or long storage periods. For valve filling, the liner must be designed carefully so air can still release during packing.

Some food ingredients need paper packaging with an inner liner to reduce moisture exposure and improve cleanliness. For valve bags, the liner must work with the valve structure. If the liner blocks the valve or prevents air release, filling may become slower and bursting risk may increase. For open-mouth bags, the liner must support clean closing and sealing.
